Every thurs nite at Stokes Bowling Club there is a community event/comp of lawn bowls. It’s not really a competition, more a drink, roll up with the bunch of loonies from around the area..
My neighbours envited me up there, as they had a spare person in their group.. They are called “The Scrubbers” as they all work in the cleaning bizzo.
I have been to a few other matches during summer and played with some other bizzarre named groups..”The Dorks” etc..They actually had made shirts especially for this comp and proudly wore a tuxedo/t-shirt and played like demons.
Unfortunately there are a few groups that take this comp far too seriously and actually try… OMG!!
Anyhoo this was the last of the matches untill next year when the sun comes out again in it’s full splendour.
They had a meat/grog raffle and i bought one ticket..(Miser me)… Everyone else bought 5-15 tickets… Anyhoo, gave the money to neighbour’s 6Yr daughter, whom she also bout only 2 tickets for her parents..(she likes to pick the numbers see.) And Lo and behold….. I won a slab of boned ham……And her parents won a massive meat tray.. Wow!!
